BUILD
- Building Universal Industry Leadership & Diversity
In 2005, the North State Building Industry Association established
BUILD, a leadership program designed to create a pipeline of future
industry and association leaders through education and exposure
to the depth and breadth of the home building industry. BUILD candidates
are selected through a competitive application and interview process.
They participate in a yearlong program of monthly seminars and workshops
which feature professional skills training, industry experts, public
policy education and exposure to the association and its many functions
in support of the homebuilding industry. In addition, each BUILD
class is required to commit its strengths and resources to a community
service project.

BUILD 2008
2008 BUILD project was Waking the Village. The decision to choose Waking the Village as their project of the year was easier once they learned this cause had no other source of funds to complete their needed improvements. In these tough times, the BIA members and HomeAid stepped up to ensure a successful project. BUILD 2008 installed flooring, carpet, kitchen countertop, a window pass-through and fencing.
BUILD 2007
BUILD 2007 was excited to take on a very large and untraditional community service project, the Grace Foundation. Through their efforts of phone calls, presentations, a letter campaign and building dog houses to auction, BUILD raised the needed funds and enough material and labor donations were acquired, that grading of three sites were coordinated, a new water pump system and septic tank were installed and fencing for an open arena constructed.
BUILD 2006
BUILD 2006 took on the surmountable task of refurbishing two homes for St. Patrick's Home for Children. Through BUILD's efforts, the homes overcame water seepage and an old heating system that endangered the lives of the resident girls. In the end, BUILD updated all bedrooms and bathrooms, replaced all appliances, countertops, sinks and fixtures, landscaping, windows and provided various furnishings for both homes, which are about 1500 sq ft each. Television and radio media covered the ribbon-cutting event at the first home, where the blessing of the home was conducted by Rev. Michael Kiernan.
BUILD 2005
BUILD 2005 set the bar very high for future BUILD groups taking on the construction of a residential cottage and fitness center for the Moral Values Program of Sacramento. The brand new two-story structure was handsomely designed and constructed and beautifully furnished through the efforts of the group. A celebratory ribbon-cutting event was attended by residents, sponsors and donators and covered by local television, newspaper and radio outlets, with the highlight being the residents first viewing of the residence and fitness center.
