About HomeAid

What is HomeAid Sacramento?
HomeAid Sacramento is a non-profit charitable corporation formed by the North State Building Industry Association in 1996 to assist in providing shelter to the temporarily homeless.

Who are the temporarily homeless?
Typically, those who are forced out of their homes, or removed from their homes due to special circumstances. Examples include abused women & children; pregnant teenagers; those recovering from addictions; persons who have experienced sudden or catastrophic illness or the loss of a job.

How does HomeAid help those who are transitionally homeless?
HomeAid works with existing service providers who have a need to create or expand shelter bed capacity. The HomeAid leadership determines the worthiness of the cause and then selects a builder captain to oversee the creation or expansion of the shelter operation. The builder captain elicits the support of his/her subcontractors and suppliers in bringing the project to fruition.

Who pays for the work that is accomplished?
HomeAid requires that the shelter provider have the ability to produce at least some of the funding required to construct the facility. The majority of the work is accomplished through in-kind donations from the members of the Building Industry Association. HomeAid also engages in fundraising activities to help cover the costs associated with each project.

Does HomeAid exist in other cities as well?
Yes. HomeAid was launched by the Orange County Chapter of the BIA of Southern California in 1988, and soon thereafter expanded to include chapters in Greater Los Angeles/Ventura, Riverside, and San Bernadino. A national organization called HomeAid America was created several years ago and, as a result, HomeAid chapters have now been formed in Chicago, Sacramento, the Bay Area, Phoenix and Denver.

Who may contribute to HomeAid?
Any charitable person who desires to help those who want to be self-sufficient and living independently, but who are temporarily dependent on the assistance of care providers in the community. Contributors of larger amounts ($1,000 and above) may designate what portion of their gift is for adopted projects and what portion is to be used for administration.
